Upcycled T-Shirt Necklace

I've seen so many ideas for upcycling your old T-shirts flying around the Blogosphere and Pinterest lately. One of the easiest ideas is the {T-Shirt Necklace}. Even though it is late, and the lighting is terrible, I wanted to make a tutorial for you, showing you how I made this necklace.

The first thing you need is an old T-shirt. It can be a man's, woman's, or child's, just know that the length of the necklace will vary depending on the size of the t-shirt.

Step 1. Cut off the bottom hem of the T-shirt
Step 2.  Cut the remaining body of the T-shirt into 1 inch strips until you get to the armpits. Just guessing roughly is fine, and you're cuts don't need to be super straight.
Step 3. Loop your fingers through the strips and pull. The cotton fabric will roll up on itself. Gather the loops into a pile.
Step 4. If your shirt is like mine was, you will have large hems sticking out. You have several options, you can leave them exposed if you like the tattered, raw look. You can double up your loops, putting both hems in one spot. Or you can line up the hems at two ends and cover both.

Step 5. Cut a rectangle of fabric from the remaining T-shirt. You will need two if you are covering two hemmed ends. Using a hot glue gun, create a hem at one end of the rectangle. Place your bundle of loops on top of the rectangle of fabric so the hems will be covered. Wrap the rectangle around the loops and secure with hot glue. Repeat at the other end if desired.

Step 6. Wear your new creation proudly!

Now you can look Shabby Chic without spending a dime. That old T-shirt just got a whole lot cooler.
