No-Sew Ruffle Tree Skirt

This year I was determined to make my own tree skirt to go under our cute, skinny Christmas tree. After seeing quite a few ruffled tree skirts on Pinterest, I gathered inspiration and drew up a plan. Here's how it turned out.

I referenced two tutorials during the process of building this gorgeous thing. The first tutorial comes from The Crafted Sparrow, where this beautiful and bright tree skirt resides.

I also used some tips from a tutorial at The Johnston's , where Ashley created her own no-sew ruffle tree skirt.

Both tutorials use a great no-sew method with easy to follow directions. I chose red cotton and burlap fabric and purchased a tree skirt from the dollar store to use as my base.

I just followed the tutorials, cutting my fabric into strips and using hot glue to secure them to my tree skirt base. I did find that Ashley, from the Johnston's, gave a really important tip when working with burlap. You need to pin your ruffles in place before you glue it down. I liked this method so much, I used it on my red cotton fabric as well.

It was a time consuming project. With interruptions it took me about 2 1/2 hours. I didn't know how much of my fabric I would need, so I only cut a few strips at a time. I am glad I did, as I ended up with quite a bit extra.

A few burnt and poked fingers and about 30 mini glue sticks later, I had a gorgeous, homemade tree skirt!

I didn't sew ties to mine, but I really love the twine that Ashley used on hers. I might go back and add some later. I just love the way it looks under our tree.

Now we just need to get our decorations put on the tree! Oh yeah, and put some presents under there. :D

Wow, I'm so impressed with that Kara! I kept thinking how on earth can that be a no-sew project? Glue sticks! Brilliant.
